I’ll be reading for the next open issue soon, and [SMALL] is ongoing (see our submissions page for more details on these and all upcoming issues), but I want to open the new year by telling you about [PHONY] and [KIDS], submissions for which are due this July and September respectively.
[PHONY]
We are collecting reviews and criticism of nonexistent works of Mormon art. These could be novels (example), movies (example), paintings, installations, drama, impromptu mid-sacrament meeting roadshow revivials, drone displays, poetry, or literally any other work of Mormon art you can imagine.
(Note: although those two examples are about nonexistent works by real people, your artist need not be “real.” She could be a 19th-century midwife avenger or anyone you like, real or imagined.)
Deadline: July 1, 2026.
[KIDS]
While Irreantum is “focused on publishing work by/for/about Mormons and Mormon-adjacent peoples,” this issue is just as focused on work by/for/about kids. Poetry, essays, art, fiction, video, music—all the same great stuff, but by and/or for and/or about Latter-day Saint kids. Suffer the little children, baby.
Submissions for [KIDS] will be open until the start of the school year. So let’s say Labor Day 2026.
Invite the artsy kids in your ward to submit!
