On the heels of announcing the reception of Orison Book’s annual award by one of our authors, we’re excited to reveal our 2025 nominations:
“The Strange Case of Frau K” by James Goldberg (22.1: Mystery, edited by Katherine Cowley) —
Modernity presented us with stories in which nothing happens as compared to the dickensian endings that came before. But James knows better and he demonstrates through missionaries that a mortal nothing may be God’s beautiful (and who are we to say otherwise?).
“Sister Wives” by Jenny Rebecca Rytting (22.bonus, edited by Theric Jepson) —
Jenny’s take on a return to polygamy doesn’t shy from the pain and horror but does so among friends and hope and kindness. The family she builds is made of tactile people grappling with something very much like reality (although, thankfully, not quite).
