El círculo del Sol

I
Un suave mar de nubes celestiales
cubre la luz de la memoria eterna.
Presente Emanuel, da honra al Padre.
Para crear, cumplir, Yo soy presente.
Su palabra es la luz del Salvador,
los profetas antiguos lo anunciaron.

II

Paz eterna, vida disciplinada.

V
Al sellarnos por tu acto, Redentor,
en familias seremos proyectados.
Cielo y tierra conectados. Mediador,
mi corazón es un río de amor
que has desbordado, Sol. ¡Oh Buen Pastor!
Mi camino es el que me has enseñado.

Circle of the Sun
Translated by Kevin Klein

I
From us, a gentle sea of heavenly clouds
covers the light of eternal memory.
Immanuel gives honor to the Father.
To create and complete, I Am is with us,
His endless word the light of our salvation,
delivered joyfully through ancient prophets.

II
Oh the ponderous grandeur of the plan,
the calling bestowed on Him for loyalty!
To the faithful who have accepted the Son
shall He in Gethsemane purify sin.
Through his disciplined preparation of love
death recedes from us like a banished landmark.

III
Jesus Christ, my Lord, sacrificed for the world:
His power has torn asunder the dark veil.
Through a man death was introduced to us all,
and through a god’s suffering we find the Way
that gods in great premortal counsel proposed
to make us holy through sacred covenants.

IV
Son of Man, Redeemer, beloved Savior:
Your sandals have for all time conquered the sands.
Your light, like sacred manna, fills and binds us
to each other in the safety of your fold.
The voice of each day’s dawning is like your gaze
that disciplines our lives for eternal peace.

V
Your sacrificial act, Redeemer, seals us
in families where we will forever grow,
heaven and earth connected. Mediator,
my heart fills deep and wide with love, a river
that You have overflowed. Bright Sun, Good Shepherd!
I find my way in the path You have taught me.

Translator’s note: Whereas formal English poetry employs certain types and numbers of metrical feet (like the iambic pentameter of Shakespearean sonnets), formal Spanish poetry often maintains a set number of syllables per line. This poem’s original lines contain 11 syllables each—a form called endecasílabo (“eleven syllables”) in Spanish—and the translation has preserved this feature.
